The Emerald Ribbon Project

More Protection with Every Plant

Our Fiery Beginning
The Emerald Ribbon Project grew out of the innovative natural fire stop system designed as part of the Emerald Animal Rescue Sanctuary. Firefighters verify that this unique gardening method saved the neighborhood during both the 1993 Laguna Beach Fire storm and the Emerald Fire of 2022.
A strategically placed blend of specific succulents & fire resistant natives combine with walkways and animal grazing areas to model a highly successful way to reduce the size of flames, dramatically slowing or even stoping the spread of fire. Additionally, it serves as a heat shield and ember catcher to substantially reduce embers from flowing into neighborhoods.
This system is proposed to be incorporated into existing inefficient firebreak at almost no cost. Implementing this system would cause fire-prone communities like Laguna Beach to be far more protected from wildfires. The resulting measurable reduction in fire damage could result in reduced fire insurance premiums.
Our team has a plan to line the cities of Orange County’s wilderness boarders with this proven fireproofing method to bring greater levels of protection and beauty to OC.
